Get to Know Our Girl Azande Mkhungo: A Rising Star on Screen, Stage, and Beyond!

Azande Mkhungo is not just a name to remember — she’s a force to be reckoned with. Hailing from the vibrant city of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, Azande’s journey into the world of performance has been nothing short of inspiring. With a Bachelor of Live Performance (stage & screen acting) from AFDA (under her belt, she’s quickly become a standout talent in the arts world. But Azande isn’t only an actress — she’s a true lover of all things creative, from singing and dancing to presenting and working behind the scenes.


Her passion for storytelling shines through every role she takes on, whether she's gracing the stage or capturing magic behind the camera. Recently, you may have spotted her in a Vodacom advert, adding yet another feather to her already impressive cap. But this is just the tip of the iceberg.


Azande's extensive resume includes working with renowned industry figures and productions. From theatre acting for an HIV/AIDS awareness campaign alongside Paul Noko, to stage managing for KKNK (Klein Karoo National Arts Festival) and Echoes of Time, Azande’s experience spans multiple aspects of the industry. Her behind-the-scenes work has been just as impressive, having contributed to productions like The Voice), L’Oréal, The River, and Gold Diggers. Whether as a production assistant, talent coordinator, or even behind the lens as a camerawoman, Azande has done it all.


Her theatrical presence is also undeniable. In 2023, she made waves with KwaSha!! Theatre Company in KwaSha The 6th, and in 2024, she brought her talent to the screen in Sibongile and the Dlamini’s Season 2, playing the role of Zama Khumalo.


But perhaps one of Azande's most loved roles is playing Mpume on DiCHiPi BY JiK’iZiNTO. Whether she’s slaying a dramatic moment or adding that perfect touch of humour, Azande brings Mpume to life in ways that leave us all hooked. And if that’s not enough, she also brings her energy as a co-host on DiCHiPi UNFiLTERED, where her passion for the arts and candidness shine through, engaging listeners in every episode.
