Ever felt like, “Yoh kuningi ene mina ngi i-one”? Welcome to the club! This life stays throwing hands. It’s almost like it can sniff out when you’re feeling demure, giving mega main character’ energy then nanku u life, changing the script when you thought you had it all on lock! Yerrr!
They say life doesn’t get easier- you just get tougher. They also say “when the going gets tough, the tough get going”, but, where do they go exactly? Are they guaranteed it won’t get tough where they’re going? If you know anything about Southaa- “qina” is as readily available in everyday conversations as taxi ranks are in this country.
The fact is we’re not built for constant strength. Show me a phone that’s used all day, everyday and never needs charging? Ask your uncle about the Nokia 3310 from way back in 2001 and he’ll tell you it’s battery lasted for days and yet even it needed to get plugged into the charger every 4 days or so.
So, we’re going to get tired and life is going to be tough: these are guarantees. As such the mental health and wellness journey is just that: a journey. Along the way, you’ll hit some amazing milestones — like getting the hang of breathwork, learning to reset your nervous system (your body’s messaging network that helps you move, feel, think, and react), and training your mind to spot glimmers (they are the opposite of a trigger and flood our bodies and minds with bliss!). Chomi, a trigger is something that suddenly brings back a tough memory or feeling — but a glimmer does the opposite, filling your mind and body with calm, peace, and joy.
The mental wellness journey remains a journey, never a destination, never an arrival. It’s just continuous learning and becoming. From there comes the resilience- knowing that, “Yeah it gets hard. I am capable of hard things. I am capable of healing.” Then going through that cycle, armed with mental wellness tools, grace and tenderness for yourself as you heal again- knowing you will come out on the other end, a bit more healed and wiser.
You don’t have to get tough and go anywhere, you can be a puddle, get into the messy stuff wherever you are, that's what makes a BAUSS!
