I’m Asiphe Godwana, a 21 year old passionate about mental wellness. In this blog I will be sharing tips on how I take care of my mental health.
Lately, I’ve been making a real effort to take better care of my mental health. It’s not always easy, but I’ve realised how important it is. I try to be more aware of how I’m feeling and not just push things aside. If I need a break, I take one. If something’s bothering me, I talk about it.
One thing I’ve really started doing is opening up more. For a long time, I used to keep everything to myself, but I’ve learned that talking to someone I trust can make such a difference. Whether it’s a friend, family member, or even just writing it down, expressing how I feel helps lighten the load.
I’ve also been more vocal about mental health in general. There’s still a lot of stigma out there, and I think the more we talk about it, the more we break it down. Struggling mentally doesn’t mean you’re weak, it means you’re human.
Some things that help me are going for a walk, listening to music, spending quiet time alone, and journaling like this. I try to keep a healthy routine and remind myself that it’s okay to not be productive all the time.
Little by little, I’m learning to take care of my mind the same way I take care of my body and I think that’s something we all need to do more often.
